WHO IS A CARER? A Carer is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a friend, neighbour or relative who could not manage otherwise because of frailty, illness or disability. According to the 2001 Census, there are 3,268 Carers in our two Districts of Hambleton and Richmondshire, each of them caring for more than 20 hours per week. There are many more 'hidden Carers' in North Yorkshire who do not think of themselves as such. I am …wife, husband, parent, son, daughter or friend. Consequently, many do not take up proper entitlement to the range of benefits and ancillary services available to and for Carers. Equally it is often difficult to admit that caring for a loved one can be hard. Carers suffer added stress, exhaustion, and poverty. At the Hambleton and Richmondshire Carers’ Centre help is there. Caring can be a positive and life-enhancing role provided Carers receive the proper information, support and advice they need. Since 1994 the Hambleton and Richmondshire Carers’ Centre, has provided a range of services, including help with benefit checks, social programmes, other support and a welcome to Carers and those working with and for them. Ask yourself again. Do I look after somebody else? Am I a Carer? If yes; please call us and we can help you. Welcome to our website. We hope that you enjoy your visit and get any information and support that you might need. If you need any further support please feel encouraged to contact us directly.
