YOUNG CARERS
Here are a few questions that people often ask
WHO ARE YOUNG CARERS?
A Young Carer is someone up to the age of 18 who helps to look after and support
anyone in the family with an illness, disability, mental health or substance
misuse problem.
They might be providing physical care, doing lots of work around the house or be
affected emotionally.
WHAT IS THE EFFECT ON THE YOUNG CARER?
Most Young Carers manage very well, but there will be times when they find it
hard concentrating at school, or become very tired. They might lack
opportunities for making friends and going out, and most will worry at times.
WHAT SUPPORT CAN WE OFFER?
The Young Carers project has two support workers covering Hambleton and
Richmondshire. We support the Young Carers through one to one support, (someone
to talk to), and through groups where they meet up with new friends for a varied
programme of activities. We can also offer advice and signpost to other agencies
if needed.
HOW DO PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT US?
We are often in the schools in the area, taking assemblies and class work. Other
professionals are becoming increasingly aware of us and the service we offer.
